Is Taylor Swift a Secret Spy Novelist? Swifties Are On the Argylle Case

Vanity Fair sources insist Taylor's not the secret scribe behind Argylle but why, oh why, is the movie page dropping Taylor Swift lyrics alongside the trailer snippets?

Mysterious Argylle author ‘Elly Conway’ has sent Taylor Swift fans into a frenzy of deduction, convincing Swifties to play detective on whether the singer is moonlighting as a secret spy novelist.

And why not? We already know the Mastermind musician loves the espionage genre, even describing how she wanted I Know Places - the 12th track on 1989 - to feel like a ‘spy movie’.

Meanwhile, literary maestro Elly Conway has landed a film adaptation of Argylle with Henry Cavill, Dua Lipa, and a parade of big names set to drop in February 2024. Apple Original Films dropped a cool $200m on the movie but the book is still MIA. Suspect, right?

SPYSCAPE contacted Swift’s ‘people’ asking if the singer would like to respond to the rumors - even if she wants to answer in code! We’ll keep you posted.

Is Taylor Swift’s pen name Elly Conway?

So who is Elly Conway? That’s the other mystery. Her bio on Penguin Books gives nada. Born and raised in upstate New York, Elly supposedly wrote her first novel as a late-night diner waitress. Sounds legit, right? Swifties say, "Not so fast!"

We even found Elly's Instagram, but sans face pics. Are we dealing with a literary James Bond here? And the plot thickens…

Chip, the feline star of Argylle is a Scottish Fold. Coincidence? Swifties don’t think so. Taylor is known for her love of cats. She has one Ragdoll, Benjamin, and two Scottish Folds named Meredith Grey and Olivia Benson. “Same kind of backpack she used to carry Olivia around in,” one fan noted on the 'Taylor Swift’s Vault' Facebook page.

Taylor has also been spotted wearing a jersey with the name 'Conway' on it, and Swifties are connecting the dots with her middle name, Alison. Ally, Elly - sneaky, sneaky! Plus, the house in the film looks eerily like the one Taylor described during quarantine. Coincidence or Taylor’s master plan?

Swifties recall Taylor's cryptic history with pseudonyms. Remember ‘Nils Sjöberg’? Could Elly be another alias?
